The latest research shows that Alli may work best with certain personality types.
In a recent article we covered how certain personality characteristics correspond to greater success with weight loss.
A recent study regarding personality characteristics and the use of Sibutramine and Orlistat (Alli) seems to underscore that people who are goal oriented and conscientious are much more likely to experience success with Alli due to the demanding regimen and discomfort associated with the use of Alli.
Karolinska University in Sweden profiled 478 obese patients using Sibutramine and Orlist. Sibutramine seemed to work best on people who had low levels of self-restraint. Orlistat seemed to work best on individuals who tend to be deliberate and ordered.
Orlistat (Alli) works by blocking the absorption of fat in the small intestine. Ingested fat is passed through the colon.
Follow up studies with Alli have shown a very low rate of retention among users, most likely due to the discomfort and gas many users report.
Sibutramine enhances the sense of fullness and satiety from food. It inhibits the reuptake of neurotransmitters such as serotonin and dopamine.
