Carnitine for Weight Loss Via Decreased Insulin Resistance
L-Carnitine may promote long term weight loss via preventing insulin resistance.
A recent study from Annamalai University in India examines the effects of L-Carnitine on rats fed a high fructose diet.
High fructose diets in rats have been associated with onset of insulin resistance.
Rats treated with 300mg per day of L-Carnitine showed virtually no signs of insulin resistance despite maintaining high fructose diets.
While there are several factors to consider, such as the L-Carnitine was not orally ingested but given internally, the dose, and the fact this is not a human study, the recent evidence accumulating for L-Carnitine and energy selection in human studies bears out nicely for L-Carnitine supplementation.
Rule of thumb – a gulp of L-Carnitine on a semi-regular basis may promote long term weight loss.
