A new study from the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (Clearly Metabolic Syndrome is the new research gravy train if these guys are looking at it) demonstrates that people with metabolic syndrome have lower intake/circulating levels of magnesium.

What is interesting about this study is to compare it to previous studies.

-    In 2006, a study out of Northwestern showed that young adults with higher magnesium intake have a lower risk of metabolic syndrome

-    Another study earlier this year linked a lack of magnesium to type 2 diabetes.

-    A study in 2003 linked higher magnesium levels to lower fasting insulin. Lower fasting insulin means less risk of insulin sensitivity.

Taken all together, the weight of these studies says this

Adequate magnesium intake is very important if you don’t want to get fat.
