Taking The Stairs and Weight Loss
Women can reach for the elevator button, new research indicates taking the stairs in order to burn more energy benefits men more.
A very interesting study by the World Health Organization has recently found a correlation between body mass index and taking the stairs – for men. For women, there is no correlation.
Men who take the stairs instead of the elevator at their work seem to have lower BMI than those who don’t.
Why the same results are not to be seen for women is unclear. It may be that the greater bodyweight of men on average tends to play a factor.
So if you are a woman should you stop taking the stairs? Probably not. BMI is not necessarily an exacting measurement and its important to find ways to burn more energy in less time. Over the long haul it sure won’t hurt if you keep stepping.
