I did yoga a few years ago and I fond it to be wonderful. It didn't make any big changes in my body's look, but I became very flexible and learned how to calm myself down with breathing.
I learned it from a yoga teacher on TV and when she went off the air I tried to stay focused but it didn't work. I actually found some tapes made by her lately and I am thinking of doing it again. |

I'm also looking to get back into yoga. I did it a little every day before I had my daughter. My balance was really improving. I no longer can do yoga at the time I normally do because my daughter likes to climb on my back.
Does anyone know where I can find a yoga DVD or place that will have moves that I can teach my 16 month old and have her do some of them with me? |

I have wondered is yoga good for men or a waste of time. I seen plenty of women do it, but how does it work for men as well. |

I imagine it would work about the same.It helps a lot with balance, breathing, relaxation and stregthening muscles. I've seen several men to it as well. |

I have found yoga to be very calming. It concentrates your breathing and you have to be very focused on the breathing techniques you are using. I think it also has something to do with increasing the oxygen intake into your system that helps too. It has proven to be a good distraction for me too. |

Outside of greater flexibility, yoga is great for calming a testosterone bathed mind. Learning to breathe correctly keeps people calmer than they might be otherwise. |

Maybe every man should take yoga than Diana. I know a few men who have temper issues lol. Yoga seems like it would be very beneficial for many people. |

Not only is it great for it's calming and strengthing effects, but it helps to relieve stress in the muscles where you body tends to store it most. It gives you cool down time from your day, to give you a better sleep. And it keeps you limber, stretched and lubricated.... remember to drink plenty of water always!.... I suggest Yoga to all of my massage clients who have trouble sleeping and tend to be stuck often in those stress holding places. Those who actually practice have reported back wonderful results!

I also think that yoga is the perfect solution for the weight loss but I think that it isn´t satisfies all the people. I tried yoga but it is very boring activity for me. |

Definitely go for it, yoga's a great way to improve core strength and flexibility, and the breathing techniques are fantastic for managing stress. You might even consider getting the Wii Fit board, they can work wonders for beginners. |

Yoga is great for a few reasons. First if you do the relaxation types, it helps with stress eating. Yoga is also good for flexibility that many other forms of exercise don't offer. |

Having spent most of my years in the gym, I too, am just beginning to incorporate yoga again. I did it several years ago, and really enjoyed it. Right now, it is the perfect thing for me to do on those days I can't make it to the gym. I do the Power Yoga tapes by Rodney Yee. My body felt so alive the next morning, and I was quite sore which surprised me. I'm planning on doing it 3 days a week. |

i am a model, fitness enthusiast and also now new mother. i have done yoga, cycling class and work outs in the gym. i would say nothing gets my body in shape as nice as yoga. specifically power yoga. i achieve the long lean feminine look as opposed to the bulky look you can get if not careful what exercises you do in the gym.
why power yoga? well because its challenging. you can go at your own pace or step it up if your feeling good that day. you may feel overwhelmed but keep going and you will see you will love it. also try different instructors. it will make all the difference. ashtanga and bikram yoga are my next favorite two.
it also clears your mind so any stresses you had that day for the hour or so you are there. you concentrate on poses and breathing and any thoughts you had are gone for that time being. i always walk out of class feeling so refreshed and relaxed.
also Diane your question if it does anything for men. absolutely it does! i had an ex boyfriend who use to play football in college, with back issues. i finally convinced him to go to yoga with me and after a little over a week and feeling silly, he said because he was so tight and had difficulty with the poses and stretching, his back and muscles became more flexible and relieved alot of pressure he had. he now goes 2 years later religiously:)
cheers! |
