Weight Loss From Exercise Preserves Muscle
Weight loss from cutting calories works, but you lose muscle, which makes weight loss harder to sustain. Try exercise instead…
A new study from the Journal of Applied Physiology shows that exercise is preferable to caloric restriction for weight loss.
The study measured 2 groups over 12 months. One group followed a weight loss regimen of caloric restriction and the other a weight loss regimen of exercise. Both groups lost roughly the same amount of fat, but the caloric restriction group showed a loss of muscle mass. The exercise group showed no corresponding loss of muscle.
