TRADE NAME: Garcinia Cambogia
CHEMICAL NAME:
TYPE OF SUPPLEMENT: Weight Loss
WHAT IT IS: Garcinia Cambogia is an Indian fruit that contains Hydroxycitric acid (HCA).
HOW IT WORKS: In order for the body to convert carbohydrates into fat, citrate lyase (an enzyme in cells) is need to change the broken down carbs (now citrate compounds) into acetyl coenzyme A (acetyl CoA). HCA, the active ingredient extracted from Garcinia Cambogia, inhibits citrate lyase and blocks the conversion of citrate to acetyl CoA, basically suppressing fat synthesis. It must be taken into consideration that the enzyme citrate lyase is only active in cases where the of carbohydrates are over consumed in the diet.
PRIMARY AFFECTS: Garcinia has been used for weight loss, appetite suppression, reducing body fat accumulation, weight control and maintenance, and to boost the metabolism.
EFFECTIVE DOSAGE LEVEL: For effective appetite suppression and body weight reduction, about 750mg-1500mg is taken in divided doses of 2 to 3 about 30 minutes to and hour before mealtime.
SUPPLEMENT CONFLICTS: Some diets may prohibit the absorption of HCA into the system, and Garcinia Cambogia has not been proven to reduce weight alone.
SIDE EFFECTS: There are no known serious side effects, although some distress in the gastro-intestinal region has been associated with high dosage.
