Is there a way to gear weight loss to the upper abdomen area? I have some excess body fat in that area and it's really getting to be unattractive. How does one target this area beneath the breasts?

There aren't any exercises specifically for that area that don't involve the rest of the abdominals or chest muscles.

Eliminating sugar and lowering your carb intake might help reduce the fat in that area, but it will reduce the fat in the rest of the body as well, leaving the same proportions, but on a smaller scale.

It may be a good idea to take a look at other family members. If you find a genetic predisposition to this fat distribution, your options might have to change, along with your goals.

I know no gear for that area. People tell me diet and watch what you intake is usually your best options. I wish there was something though.

It's not clear if you are talking about subcutaneous fat in upper abs region a bulky upper abdomen, or man cans?

Usually fat in the upper ab region is 2 things. The first thing is omental fat. This fat lies under the abdominal cavity. It's basically stress and high serum cortisol fat. If you are someone who is under a lot of stress or tend to get stressed easily, the first thing I would reach for would be an ultra concentrated EPA/DHA. This reduces cortisol, elevates mood and generally helps you to lean up.

The other possibility is an enzymatic issue. The idea here is your transverse colon is getting backed up and fermenting a lot of carbs (with thanks to Jem for the help in this area). In this case, you are going to get that top heavy upper abdomen that looks like your are fat but it's really gas bloat. For this you would want to get on a good enzyme. Try our CleanZymes in this case.

The other area you might be talking about is the "man can" region - under the arms and leading to just under the chest area. In this case there are a couple of things going on. As you age you start making more estrogen so most men invariably start to get droopy fat around and under the nipple area. At the same time it's common to see generalized trunk fat that more often than not is a progression of insulin resistance related issues. This is a combination of things you can do in this case, too long for this forum. Take a look at Free of Fat Forever.

That area is always hard to lose weight from. Anything that tones the stomach or chest should help.

I do regular abs exercises, and when I'm good, they help to work on the whole tommy / abs area, including the upper part.
